Youth Violence Systems Project

In partnership with Boston Capacity Tank, Emmanuel Gospel Center (EGC) is leading the Youth Violence Systems Project (YVSP), a four-year effort that will develop and put into use a tool that reflects our communities’ best thinking about youth violence in Boston from a multi-dimensional perspective.

YVSP partnered with members of three high-violence neighborhoods in Boston to understand their view of the dynamics of youth violence. This community understanding was combined with research and criminal, demographic and economic data we received from public sources, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard’s Department of Health Policy and Management, Northeastern University and Children’s Hospital. This information was used to create a computer model that will help everyone from neighborhood youth to policy makers to evaluate and better understand the effectiveness of various youth violence intervention strategies. Our goal is to enable a higher quality of dialogue about these strategies.
