We generally tailor internships to the needs and interests of the prospective intern, and the current needs of the Center. Interns must be committed Christians interested in learning about urban ministry. Our goal is for the internship to be beneficial both to the Center and to the intern. Internships can range from a few weeks to a year or more, and can be part-time or full-time.
Many of our past interns have been involved in helping us understand what God is doing in Boston. They have explored urban youth ministry, leadership development, Christian education, patterns of relationship building and networking. They have gotten to know and written case studies on all kinds of urban churches and ministries.
It is also possible to build an internship around one of our ministries such as Starlight, Haitian ministry (language skills in French/Creole would be helpful), or others. Please see our list of ministries. Sometimes we have placed interns directly with urban churches through the Center’s network.
We generally do not pay interns. However, it could be possible for an intern raise their own support through the Center if that were necessary, and sometimes there are programs that can afford to offer a small stipend. Pending availability, we can also help with housing; some interns stay with EGC staff members, paying a low weekly fee for room and board.
For more information on internships or to receive an application, contact us, attention Jeffrey Murray, Director of Operations. In your e-mail, please provide information about your abilities and interests, academic studies (if appropriate), background and preferred internship opportunity.
