Overview
The mission of neXus Boston is to improve the lives of urban youth and their communities by encouraging, supporting and training youth workers to become responsible, caring, Christian leaders able to serve urban and high-risk youth and their families more effectively. neXus Boston is a collaboration of major organizations whose work over many years is tried and proven: Emmanuel Gospel Center, the Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston, Boston TenPoint Coalition, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s Center for Urban Ministerial Education, Boston Urban Youth Foundation, and the Urban Youth Worker Institute’s Center for Youth Studies.

The goals of neXus Boston are to:

  • Help youth workers develop the personal and spiritual character, disciplines, and skills required for effective long-term Christian leadership,
  • Help youth workers develop healthy, trusting relationships with youth by better understanding constantly changing youth culture and the myriad issues urban youth and their families face,
  • Help youth workers increase their understanding of the services needed and available for youth and families, and
  • Help increase youth worker professionalism and effectiveness, using proven models and methodologies of ministry that integrate best practices of youth work with sound theological understanding

neXus Boston intends to empower youth ministry by developing youth workers who know how to develop healthy, trusting relationships with youth; are on the vanguard of youth culture; and are able to connect youth and their families to appropriate services. By reducing the turnover rate of youth workers and increasing youth worker professionalism, using proven program models, and increasing systems of support and partnership, neXus Boston will make a major impact on urban youth.
